Lines
03:04
|
|
||
Every day since then I've marveled at the skies
They've been painted in the color of your eyes
And the sunlight shines in substitute of you
So my heart reminds itself to whom it's due
All the lines we drew were always in the sand
And a tide came in that nothing could withstand
If the canvas must lie so close to the sea
Then we'll draw new lines connecting you and me
There's a joy in feeding fire of the chest
Even if the ship is lost among the rest
For the hope of safe return burns blazing bright
So I'll fix my line and stare into the night
Any certainty in love leaves some afraid
And it's true our lines have seen some better days
But the heart's the only compass we can trust
And I know in mine to never give you up
Summer days bring my love away
Summer days, oh so far away
But spring days, she's here to stay
Give me one more day, another day
(One more day, another day)

The Road
03:10
|
|||
This road before me stretches until
What follows overtakes and I know it will
But what I'm chasing might be worse still
Just one more hill
This rusty wreck I'm in deserves its own song
I can't believe it's still moving along
I just might make it if nothing goes wrong
We'll carry on
My ride's near done for, she's in a sorry state
I've never shied away from certain fate
Oh, but it's failure I've always hated
Oh wait -
Bright light, weak knees, I blink and sway
Vaguely aware, my pursuers fade away
Bells ring in my head I cannot place
There's one last chance for one more day
One more day
No one knows better than you or I
There's nothing out there but sea and sky
Maybe I'd better just go home
Just go home

State of the Union
03:39
|
|||
I'm looking for a way to show that together we'll endure
The years have nursed a cynic temperance that little else could cure
Survival instinct's left us alive but immature
I think we're capable of better, oh, I'm sure
I'm looking for a newborn ocean where waters overflow
The well we wished in drained its waters and crumbled long ago
And nighttime worries drag us deeper through the undertow
I think we're capable of better, oh
You feel we may have missed our open door
But hope for better leaves you wanting more
I'm looking for a way to tell you there's nothing left to fear
'Cause through the sharp and rapid waters I will be right here
This union tying us together's holding strong this year
I still think we're capable of better, you know it too, my dear
You feel we may have missed our open door
But hope for better leaves you wanting more
The seas we sail are growing deeper
I know I'm not my brother's keeper
But maybe we'll together reach the shore
You feel we may have missed our chance again
But hope for better's still your only friend
The seas we sail are growing deeper
I know I'm not my brother's keeper
But maybe we'll together reach the end

Take Me Away
03:49
|
|||
Edge of a mountain over the sea
Shore of an ocean whispers to me
Tenuous light breeze intensifies
Please let it take me into the skies
Take me away, take me away
Take me away, take me away
Eyelids shut tightly, holding my breath
Life isn't nearly all that complex
Concerns and worries await at the door
So let the wind take me, just let me soar
Take me away, take me away
Take me away, take me away
Just for one day, take me away
Take me away, take me away
I feel I'm waiting for the one I left on that white shore
Take me away
Take me away, take me away
Tenuous light breeze intensifies
Please let it take me into the skies

Pickup Radio
02:32
|
|||
Well there I was, a-working through the crowd without a care
As I closed the case on my guitar I saw her standing there
I caught her eye and looked her down, my heart sprinting away
I introduced myself although I knew she'd missed me play
Well I said, I'm big around here
And I said, you oughtta know
And she said, I've never heard you on the radio
So I said, well, I'm big in Jersey
And I said, come to my show
But she said, I've still never heard you on the radio
Oh, oh, oh
Back then I played for tips and change, and made a living thus
I had a mic and a guitar but a record was way too much
So I went home, I got some wire, resistors, tape, and glue
And built me an FM transmitter well before the night was through
Well I said, I'm big around here
And I said, you oughtta know
And she said, I've never heard you on the radio
So I said, well, I'm big in Jersey
And I said, come to my show
But she said, I've still never heard you on the radio
Oh, oh, oh
Well I said, how nice to see you
And I saw her eyes aglow
And she said last night I heard you on the radio
So I said some humble nothings
And that night I took her home
And it's all because she heard me on the radio
Oh, oh, oh

Simple Joys
02:10
|
|||
When your early calendar is clear so you snooze eight times before you go
When your breakfast bowl's at the ideal milk-to-cereal ratio
When my sky's threatening to rain
I take time 'till I regain my composure
So I will always find these simple joys of mine
A dry leaf's crunch under your feet, the snap of a fresh can of beer
Correcting your friends on breakfast meat, it's Taylor ham when you order here
When my sky's threatening to rain
I take time 'till I regain my composure
So I will always find these simple joys of mine
When you make your friend's Myspace Top 8 and a safe bet that she likes you too
When it's not a date, but not not a date, but at least it's just the two of you
A complement you don't expect
A smile honest to its core
Lunch with someone you respect
Time with someone you adore
When my sky's threatening to rain
I take time 'till I regain my composure
So I will always find -
When my sky's threatening to rain
I take time 'till I regain my composure
So I will always find -
When my sky's just a little grey
And the day's not gone my away
I remember that I will always find these simple joys of mine
